We started dancing Gujo dance all night for four consecutive days from August 13th, so it was difficult to book a hotel. I finally booked this hot spring hotel far away from the castle town. It was so expensive. I checked in on the afternoon of the 12th. Although I contacted the hotel by email in advance, the hotel did not arrange a car to pick us up at the bus (Gujo Hachiman IC). The bus station was on the side of the highway and very remote. Fortunately, I found a homestay to help call a taxi. It cost 130 yuan for the fare, which was very far. The hotel is far away from the castle town, the facilities are old, the Japanese-style rooms are relatively large, the hotel shares the bath with the hot spring bath, the hot spring water quality is OK, but worse than the Hirugami Onsen I went to a few days ago. I did not book breakfast and dinner. You can go to the coffee shop opposite there for breakfast. It is quite affordable, American simple meals, coffee and bread sandwiches. The bus to Gifu Station is right in front of the hotel. You don’t need to make a reservation. It stops at every station. You can take this bus to the castle town. There are not many buses. You can ask the front desk for the timetable. In short, this hot spring hotel is not cost-effective, and the location is remote. There are no convenience stores around. There is no need to take a hot spring here. It is recommended to stay near the castle town.

The onsen are a must, got a really good traditional dinner and breakfast. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Staff was very kind and nice.

The area around Gujo-Hachiman is staggeringly beautiful and is absolutely worth the effort to get there. The staff at Hotel Gujo-Hachiman are were exceptionally kind, generous, and helpful. Ryokans are an interesting experience. This one was pretty worn out and had not been updated in a couple decades probably, so you need to be mentally prepared to look past a lot of things. We stayed two nights with half board. If you are an adventurous eater then I'd recommend taking meals. If not, it is not worth the added expense. The food is very high quality but a lot of it is raw and/or not easily identifiable to a foreigner (and the servers are not able to explain the preparations accurately). For example, I was told several things were chicken and they were most certainly not chicken. There was no coffee at breakfast, only tea. There is a cafe across the street that sells coffee though. As a bit of caution, it is not practical or lawful (apparently) to walk to/from the hotel and Gujo and the main transportation hubs. You do need to either take a taxi (1400 yen / 2 people) or the bus (400 yen / 2 people). It is a little confusing to navigate but it all worked out great — everyone here was so helpful and kind. If you are in doubt, first and foremost it is worth getting to Gujo-Hachiman. When we visited this was the only hotel with availability. If you find yourself in a similar situation it will be fine, but will require a bit more effort with local transportation.

The hotel is at the end of the highway bus route from Meitetsu Gifu Bus Terminal, so it was convenient for me who doesn't have a car. It was also nice that there were hot spring facilities, including an open-air bath with a beautiful river view. The dinner course was very satisfying, with sweetfish, crab, scallops, and Hida beef, and the Hida beef steak that I ordered separately was also very delicious. However, there were no convenience stores nearby, so I had to call a taxi every time I wanted to go to a tourist spot, but I think it's not a problem for those who are staying by car. The hotel was built in the 1960s, so the facility itself felt old, but it was well maintained, and even the Japanese-style rooms were equipped with washlets and humidifiers, so I was comfortable for a two-day stay.

I don't travel often, so my impressions may differ from those who are used to traveling. We stayed as a family of three (the child is a boy in the first year of junior high school). Since it was early December, there were not many customers. There were some reviews that said they were scared because they heard there were a lot of stink bugs, but if that's the case, you should look for a hotel in the city. Actually, I never encountered a stink bug. The woman who served us dinner was a Nepalese who spoke good Japanese. All the staff I encountered at the hotel, including this woman, were pleasant people. The price should be cheap because I searched for the cheapest hotel and booked it. It doesn't seem like a particularly unique hotel, but I didn't see anything that made me want to give a negative rating. I don't know if it's normal for check-in at 3 o'clock and check-out at 10 o'clock, but I think it would be nice if check-in was around 12 o'clock.

The response from the employees was very good. The manager (or maybe he is?) has a soft demeanor and makes you feel comfortable. There seemed to be some foreigners working there, and I was very happy that they were kind enough to call out to me when I was in trouble and help me out. The facilities and equipment have a sense of history, but I guess that's a good thing.

The hotel is old but clean and nice. However, it was disappointing that the toilet in front of the bath was Japanese style. The staff were kind and responsive. It was a sudden stay, but I am satisfied.

The inside of the building is well cleaned and has a separate smoking area. The lobby is on the 1st floor, the 2nd floor is the large hall, and the 3rd to 5th floors are the guest rooms. The room has a relatively large unit bath and toilet. Conveniently located 7-10 minutes by car from Gujo city.

It's a convenient location because it's along the national highway about 7 minutes from the expressway exit. The building is old, but I think it was cleaned well. The open-air bath in the snow was nice! However, the position of the shower in the bathroom was too low, so it was a little difficult to have to hold it with one hand to shampoo.
